1950 Oldsmobile 88 Futuramic Convertible Restomod - LT1 350ci - A/C - WOW!

This 1950 Oldsmobile 88 Futuramic convertible represents automotive history in the most enjoyable way possible. Widely credited as the original muscle car, the '50 Olds 88 combined a lightweight body with the powerful new Rocket V8, creating a formula that would define American performance for decades. This particular example was professionally transformed into a restomod approximately 25 years ago, and the quality of that build still shines today. Finished in striking red over a red leather interior with a white convertible top, it delivers the classic looks of a proper restoration with the reliability and drivability of a modern car. Acquired from a Tennessee estate, the car has been mechanically sorted and is ready for its next owner to enjoy.

Exterior:
The red finish was applied during the restomod build roughly 25 years ago and continues to present very well, with nice gloss and depth throughout. Close inspection reveals minor imperfections consistent with age and occasional use, but overall the paint remains impressive for a two-decade-old restoration. All chrome and brightwork was redone during the build and remains in excellent condition. The glass appears to be original and is in excellent shape throughout. The white convertible top was replaced during the restoration, operates properly via the power mechanism, and shows well.

Interior:
The interior was fully redone in correct red leather during the restomod, and it presents in excellent condition. The dash retains its stock configuration and gauges, maintaining the original appearance. A tilt steering column was installed for comfort, fitted with the original steering wheel to preserve the period look. Aftermarket air conditioning has been neatly installed under the dash, along with a couple of supplemental gauges. The original radio and clock are present but not functional. The trunk compartment is very clean and properly finished.

Mechanical:
Power comes from a mid-1990s Corvette LT1 350 V8, professionally installed and very clean in the engine bay. The installation was done to a high standard, with the underhood presentation looking almost factory-correct despite the swap. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission and drives excellently. Modern upgrades include power steering, power disc brakes, and aftermarket air conditioning, all of which function properly. Dual exhaust provides a great sound. The car was acquired from a Tennessee estate and has been thoroughly sorted by the selling dealer, including a new gas tank, fuel pump, hoses, and belts. The speedometer does not currently function due to compatibility issues with the modern drivetrain and will need to be addressed by the new owner. The underside is clean and well-presented.

Summary:
This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive history that you can actually drive and enjoy. The 1950 Oldsmobile 88 launched the muscle car era and even inspired what many consider the first rock and roll song. This thoughtfully executed restomod lets you experience that history with modern reliability, air conditioning, power steering, and disc brakes, all while looking completely stock from the outside. These cars are well known among collectors and enthusiasts, and a properly sorted restomod convertible like this rarely comes to market.
