1957 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible - California Car! - Restoration almost done!

Here is a Rare and Exceptional 1957 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe that is already 80 - 85% restored and just needs finishing! I believe it to be a life-long California car and the condition of the body and original sheetmetal, back that up! One of only 9000 convertibles produced out of total production in 1957 of 118,372 cars!

There is an interesting story about how it came to be in this condition. In June of 1996, a gentleman in Los Angeles, California contracted with a local restoration shop here in the Phoenix, Arizona area, to restore his lifelong dream car to a #2 quality, driver/show car. He was quoted $42,000 to $45,000 to accomplish that and I have all or most of the receipts documenting what was done. The owner claimed that he had over $51,000 invested to get to this point which is about $86,000 in today's money, adjusted for inflation! Things went along smoothly until December 1999 when there was a disagreement and neither side would give in so the restoration came to a standstill. The car was subsequently moved to the rear corner of his shop and there it sat for 22 years! Tragically, the restorer recently passed away and the business closed down. Long story short, I purchased it "as is" from the owner who couldn't afford to finish it or deal with it anymore.

I have looked through and sorted all the parts and have done some more temporary assembly, mainly to show how complete the car is and to give the uninformed an idea of what the finished product will look like! I am selling it as a restoration project that is very close to completion.

The options list as it is currently equipped is as follows:

365 CID V-8 Engine
Hydra-Matic Automatic Transmission
Power Windows
Power Brakes
Power Top
Power Steering
Power Electric 6-way Seat
EZ Eye Glass
Autronic Eye
AM Radio

VIN# 5762047762

Odometer 1 (The CA title showed 91,344 original miles before restoration and the restorer zeroed it.)

As per the invoices received, the body was stripped and beautifully refinished in the original color of Alpine White. I see no evidence of any prior rust repair and all the panels appear to be original sheetmetal. No patches. There are a few minor nicks or chips from sitting around that shop for all these years, but it still looks beautiful as my photos show! The chrome and trim are a combination of new chrome, freshly polished stainless, excellent original and some parts needing replating. The front bumper, rear bumper center bar, taillight bezels and front cowl vent trim are the major parts that need to be plated yet. The dash assembly has been restored as was the convertible top frame assembly. The windshield glass is new as is the gasket. The hubcap centers are NOS and the caps are very nice.

The engine and transmission have been rebuilt and correctly refinished. The front suspension was rebuilt as well as the brake system, master cylinder and power booster. It appears like all the engine compartment components have been rebuilt and refurbished and everything is nicely restored! It is not running yet. Lines, hoses and wiring are to be connected and all fluids added and all adjustments are to be made before it will be road worthy!

The original leather upholstery and the original trunk material are still there and will make great patterns for the new two-tone Red and White leather interior and the new trunk liner. The top irons are restored and ready for the new Ivory convertible top.

I have looked over the inventory of parts and extra parts that came with the car and found a few parts missing..... Those are the rear bottom seat cushion, a couple inside windshield post trim moldings, the convertible top latch windshield brackets and the left side vent window assembly although I have one that I'm sure can be made to work. Just understand that there may be a missing small bracket or bolt, etc. but it is very complete and you get everything that came with the car. There are some extra parts and some parts that might not be for this car, but you get it all.

This will be an exceptional Cadillac Convertible Collector Car with minimal additional time and money and will be a great investment, as well!
