Overview Of Entire Vehicle: *Condition #3- (Nice Driver)

Here is a beautiful, extremely rare 1957 Pontiac Star Chief Safari Transcontinental station wagon. This is an ultra rare find that you rarely ever see, built only half the year in 1957. This car is 1 of 1,894 ever built and it will be a long time till you see another surviving one. The transcontinental was unique as it came with the Bonneville like side trim, chrome roof rack and fold down passenger seat. This vehicle was a California car all of its life and it was a barn find when the gentlemen found it and did what I would describe as an amateur restoration to it a few years ago. Overall this car looks great, is a great driver and awesome car to take to car shows getting nothing but stares and dropped jaws. During the restoration they could have paid a little more attention to detail and have used better prep on the paint. It looks great to most and to the average person it could be a show car. Either way, just ask yourself when have you seen another one!

Exterior: *Condition #3-

The exterior has what appears to be a rust free California body with nice straight sides and great fit. It has a decent paint job on it that looks great for a driver but has some flaws in the finish and could use a color sand to be a step better. It was finished in a very striking red and beige. The original color were a two tone green. This color combo is much better. All of the chrome and stainless has been redone on the car during the restoration with a lot of money spent on that part. The weather stripping appears to all be new and the glass is gorgeous. The accents on the exterior are absolutely gorgeous including the lenses, tri-bar hubcaps, and a little older bias ply tires. Overall this exterior is a real head turner and has a lot of plus's with the only minus being some flaws in the paint job up close and a couple minor flaws on both front edges of the chrome front bumper, which can be seen in the video.

Interior: *Condition #3-

The interior on this Safari was completely all redone to match the exterior in a Red and Beige vinyl with a Red carpet. The dash was all restored and painted with originals gauges and gauge cluster. The steering wheel was restored and the horn ring is in beautiful condition. Most of the chrome has either been redone or in beautiful original condition, the back seat folds down and it has the storage area with all the original stainless strips in it. Also it has a new headliner installed just overall very clean, correct, and stock inside of the car. Everything works inside the car with the exception of the heater and blower, the original AM radio, the clock, the directionals, and the gas gauge which works but appears to be a little off. It does have a hidden AM-FM CD player hidden in the tissue dispenser and extra speakers that sound great.

Mechanically: *Condition #3-

Mechanically we were told the engine and transmission were completely rebuilt during the restoration and it appears they have been as the engine is all detailed. Underneath the hood has been all detailed and painted to matched the car and looks very nice. The car runs, drives and shifts good, the suspension was lowered a bit so over bumps it is a little stiff. The power steering works great, the treadle vac power brake unit was just rebuilt but the brakes could use a little adjustments. The car stops fine but it is not as good as it should be.

Under Carriage: *Condition #3-

This Under Carriage on this vehicle is very nice and clean and looks to be rust free with one minor repair to the drives floor at one time. Other then that the inner rockers, frame, and everything else is solid. The gas tank has been replaced with a custom fitted and built one because the factory 1957 gas tank was so rare, it was not able to be located.
